What's in a Number?

Everyone keeps talking about the fact that 2016 was a 9 year, wrapping up a 9-year cycle, and that 2017 is a 1 year, thereby starting a new 9-year cycle (that will end in 2025). So, how do we get that and what does it mean, really?

Well, to figure out the numerology on it, you add together the numbers, so 2+0+1+7=10, then you break that down by adding again, and 1+0=1. You can do this for your own birth year and figure out what year of a cycle you were born in, for example I was born in 1963: 1+9+6+3=19, 9+1=10 and 1+0=1, so that was a 1 year. However, 1966 becomes 22 and that's a Master Number, which is a whole different conversation. (If your birth year adds up to 11, 22 or 33 then look up Master Numbers, it's really quite interesting.)

For me, this is an interesting cycle...as was the last one. See, 2007 was also a 9 year and that year I lost my father-in-law and my husband from my previous marriage within six months of each other, and that ended a cycle that began in 1999 and included my previous two marriages and divorces, plus my journey into and out of nursing school. His battle with cancer ended my fascination with western medicine, and in 2008 my journey in holistic and alternative medicine began. A 9-year journey that began with me going to school to be a Dr. of Naturopathy and ends with me accepting that a formal education for a degree will probably never be something that I complete. And I'm okay with that now.

This is also a personal 9 year for me, something that you can calculate by adding your day and month of birth to the current year. It is for my husband Steve as well...so in this global year of beginnings, we have a cycle to end and it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. After all, the year we met and married in our epic two-month whirlwind romance was a global 3 year and a personal 2 year for us both...as well as an 11 year, and 11 is a number of instinct and intuition guiding one's actions, and 3 is about connection and relationships. An 11 year is also a 2 year and although normally a 2 is a year of slower pacing, it's also a year of focusing on relationships, so it's no wonder we had the momentum we did at the beginning of ours!

So, what is this year for you personally and how will that play out amidst the energy of the global year of new beginnings? For me and my husband, it's a year to take stock of where we've been and to look ahead at where we want to go personally and as a couple. It's a time of letting go of things that we no longer use, need or aren't working for us coupled with starting new things that do work better for us. For everyone, it's a year to start anew, so this is a good time to look at your dreams and see what you can do to start making them come true over the next 9 year cycle.
